Problem

Where's Waldo?
Nine years ago our practice was buried under piles of paper charts. Staff members were constantly searching for charts and paperwork. Chasing down this information was extremely time-consuming, and sometimes records would be inexplicably missing. Even when they had the chart, physicians and staff often experienced the gnawing fear that the chart they were consulting was missing important patient information and clinical data. With these concerns in mind, we set out to find an electronic health records solution that would improve our control over all of the documentation generated for our patients.

Solution

You’ve Got Mail
The SRS EHR was an exceptional solution to our paper chart problem. Physicians no longer worry about whether a test result was received or if it was filed in the right place—they know for sure. Through an interface between SRS and our lab facility, physicians are immediately notified when results come in. Physicians view these lab results within SRS and digitally sign off on them.

Proactive Care
We created a mammography requisition form that our medical assistants print out and give to patients. Saving this form in the digital chart automatically triggers an alert in SRS that a test was ordered for the patient and that results are expected shortly. If the mammogram results do not come back when expected, a staff member is alerted and takes action to determine the reason. SRS empowers us to take a proactive approach towards test results, rather than realizing that there are outstanding results only when the patient comes in for a subsequent appointment. The benefits are more thorough and enhanced care for our patients, more organized processes for the staff, and reduced legal exposure for our practice.

Accountable Documentation and HIPAA Compliance
All of the actions taken by SRS users across the practice are documented. There is no question about who read a message or when results were received. Activities in SRS are automatically tracked, which provides an excellent HIPAA trail. We are confident that our records are secure and that we are complying with patient privacy regulations.

The SRS EHR has provided countless benefits to our practice. Our staff experiences less stress because they have constant access to patient information. They no longer have to track down charts or contend with missing records. Our workflow is much more efficient and everything is accomplished much faster with SRS. Moving from screen to screen within SRS is quick with fast, crisp connections. Speed and dependability are essential in a busy medical practice like ours. All in all, SRS has made everything much easier. We can hardly remember back to the time when we used paper charts. We’ve come a long way!
