Expert discusses benefits of EHRs for ophthalmologists
Doctors who treat glaucoma patients may benefit from adopting electronic health records, according to one expert, as the specialty involves tracking large amounts of data over extended periods of time.
Dr. Michele Lim recently presented at the Glaucoma Subspecialty Day at the meeting of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. She said that EHRs may be able to deliver important improvements in care quality for glaucoma patients, according to OSN Supersite.
"Definitely glaucoma is a data-driven type specialty," Dr. Lim said, according to the news source. "We all need information in one place and it has to be easy to retrieve."
She added that there are substantial financial incentives available to practices that adopt EHR systems. Combined with the quality improvements experienced by most offices that transition to the technology, this can help modernize operations and ensure that every patient receives optimal care.
Recently, the Academy issued a report outlining some ways that EHR systems can be tailored to the needs of an ophthalmological practice, citing the importance of advanced imaging options and ways to track complicated workflow processes.
