New initiative supports providers' adoption of EHRs
Most physicians are familiar with the government's meaningful use incentive program, but they may not be aware of other initiatives designed to help make the transition to EHRs easier.
The health insurance provider Capital District Physicians Health Plan recently launched one such program, pledging more than $1 million in support to specialists in the state of New York.
The funding will be used to provide consultation services to practices considering a transition to EHRs. Physicians will receive assistance in selecting the proper system for their needs, tips for achieving meaningful use requirements and support in connecting to the Health Information Exchange of New York.
Officials said they are supporting providers' use of EHRs because it represents a win-win situation. Doctors are able to deliver a higher quality of care and lower their costs, which benefits the insurer.
"Technology plays an integral part in medical practice transformation and the delivery of efficient health," said CDPHP chief medical officer Bruce Nash. "We see this new initiative as a way to continue to partner with our providers and improve the delivery of care to our members and all residents of the Capital District."
