New ONC website to track EHR implementation efforts
A new website being launched by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT may support efforts to evaluate progress being made toward EHR adoption among physicians, according to the agency.
The ONC Health IT Dashboard will collect data and make it available to federal grantees, such as the Regional Extension Centers. These resources were set up as a way to provide technical support and consulting services to smaller providers in order to help them achieve meaningful use of EHRs.
In announcing the new portal, the ONC said the service will make it easier to assess how well grantees are working toward their goal of supporting broader adoption of EHRs. This will ensure that these organizations are using their grant money appropriately and make it easier for them to qualify for further funding.
The dashboard could be used by any entity receiving federal money for the purposes of supporting EHR implementation. This may include healthcare providers, community colleges and state-designated entities, in addition to the regional extension centers.
While the system will collect information about physicians' health IT use, the ONC said it would not include any data on patients in order to allay privacy concerns.
