SRSsoft Supports Peter Orszag to Lead Office of Management and Budget
MONTVALE, NJ – December 10, 2008 – SRS, the leader in hybrid EMR solutions, today announced its support for President-Elect Barack Obama's nomination of Peter Orszag to serve as budget director and head of the White House Office of Management and Budget.
"Mr. Orszag understands the complex issues underlying the electronic health records industry. He recognizes that EHR implementation has had challenges," says Evan Steele, CEO of SRSsoft. "This substantiates what we have been saying for the past 10 years—that there is a need for an alternative solution, a solution that works, and we believe that the unparalleled success of the hybrid EMR is proving that it is such a solution."
Orszag, who recently resigned as Director of the Congressional Budget Office, is well versed in the problems plaguing the health information technology sector and, specifically, in the barriers to successful adoption of EHR solutions by office-based physician practices. On July 24, 2008, Orszag testified before the Subcommittee on Health, Committee on Ways and Means of the U.S. House of Representatives, regarding a May 2008 report by the Congressional Budget Office (Evidence on the Costs and Benefits of Health Information Technology).
In his testimony, Orszag echoed what landmark studies have concluded about traditional EHRs, saying "Office-based physicians in particular may see no benefit if they purchase such a product—and may even suffer financial harm."
