Addressing the concerns of physicians who are hesitant about adopting EHR systems, the national coordinator for health IT Farzad Mostashari said at a recent conference that there will never be a better time to transition to an electronic system, Government Health IT reports.

Mostashari said at the conference of the Medical Group Management Association that many practices view government regulations regarding the adoption of EHR systems and other emerging models of care as burdensome, which has prompted anxiety in some sectors.

However, EHR technology has made tremendous strides in recent years and is now easier to use. This fact combined with the availability of incentives for EHR implementation make this the ideal time to transition to new technology.

"There's this, frankly, largely unproductive anxiety out there right now," Mostashari said, according to the news source. "There's not a big, bad wolf at the door. It's never going to be an easier time than now."

The comments reflect a growing sense of urgency surrounding EHR implementation. Mostashari has previously said that the problems facing the U.S. healthcare system are so great that information exchange needs to start taking place sooner rather than later. He believes it is not something that can be put off another five years.
