Major Improvements with Minimal Change

SRS made our transition into the electronic world easy for our physicians and staff. From the beginning, the caliber of the SRS training staff was refreshing. Their commitment and focus made for streamlined implementation and eliminated the staff’s anxiety about EHRs. The intuitive, easy to use system enabled us to move into the digital environment without dramatically changing how we do business. We were able to implement the SRS EHR without encountering major disruptions or frustrating the physicians by demanding that they alter the way they practice. The changes to our practice were small in scope but significant in terms of efficiencies, productivity and cost savings.

Improved Communication, Greater Control

SRS has streamlined our processes on the clinical side, improved communication, centralized information and provided greater control over ordering and referrals.

The ability to pool messages has enhanced communication between staff and physicians and reduced the duplication of effort which often occurs when messages are missed, mis-communicated or misinterpreted.

The order management system has given us greater control of our ordering process. Because the system is automated, we know where a patient is going, and can track results and compliance. Our physicians can readily see the patient’s complete medical history without searching through a chart, which increases their productivity and minimizes reliance on staff to track down documentation. Our customized pharmacy report handles the management of our in-house inventory for Worker’s Compensation prescriptions and we are considering customizing a similar module for bracing. We look forward to extending these efficiencies throughout our facilities and anticipate extending the SRS system to the surgical center.

Physicians Save Time, Practice Saves Money

SRS has allowed our practice to expand by one physician and 2 physician assistants, without increasing overall staffing costs. By the end of our second year with SRS, we estimate that we will have saved $430,000. In just the first 8 months following implementation, we lost 4 full-time administrative assistants through attrition, which resulted in annual savings of $160,000—and because of increased efficiencies, we didn’t have to replace them. Because SRS gives physicians quick access to patient information, reduces paperwork, and enables them to review charts and dictate from remote locations, they have fewer restrictions on how and when they access patient information. These efficiencies have significantly reduced our physicians’ reliance on staff for a lot of clerical, office and paper chart needs. Where we once required one assistant per physician, we now find that one assistant for every two physicians is sufficient. We anticipate that reduced medical records needs in our second year will boost overall savings by an additional $270,000.

Reaping Rewards

We all want to embrace technology, and the SRS EHR is an easy way to make the transition. It has been particularly rewarding to see the increased efficiencies and workflow improvements we were looking for come to fruition, and personally satisfying to witness the positive effects on patient care. It is great to see our practice move into the digital age.
