Smaller practices can successfully deploy EHR systems
For larger healthcare providers that have significant resources, EHR implementation may present some speed bumps, but is generally a manageable transition. However, the process can be more difficult for smaller private practices. This is why it is important for them to take advantage of available advice.
A primary care physician based out of Fresno, California, recently implemented an EHR system in compliance with the government's meaningful use rules. He told Health Leaders Media that the process took some time, but improvements in billing helped make the transition pay off.
"From the very beginning when I heard of the program, I knew we were going to do this. Absolutely there was no doubt," the physician told the news source.
He added that getting all the practice's physicians involved, identifying an in-house "expert" and maintaining a patient attitude were key elements to the success of his EHR implementation.
Underlying all these efforts should be a solid plan. The American Medical Association has identified the creation of a precise plan as the first step in successful EHR implementation.
