Survey shows EHR systems make it easier for physicians to find patient charts
EHR systems may bring a range of quality improvements to a practice, but many doctors are primarily satisfied with the technology because it makes one specific area of their jobs easier.
In a recent survey conducted by the technology consulting firm Software Advice, providers overwhelmingly ranked the ability to quickly and easily locate a patient’s chart as the top benefit of EHR systems.
Close behind this benefit was the improved legibility of notes, the availability of up-to-date information and the improved coordination of treatment between multiple providers.
The findings of the survey underscore the important point that, while most, but not all, EHR implementation can slow down a practice’s workflow in the short-term, medical professionals may find some aspects of their job becoming easier after the system has been in place for a while.
In some cases, physicians can be resistant to the changes associated with EHR implementation. However, when they begin to understand the ways in which the technology can benefit them, they may be more likely to get on board. Organizations should take the time to explain these benefits to their staff.
